Bikejoring
Bikejoring is a fast, fun way to work as a team with your dog while they pull in front of a bike. It is part of the mushing world, but you do not need snow or sleds to try it. If you like the idea of moving together, building teamwork, and having a sport that feels like an adventure, bikejoring is worth checking out.

What is bikejoring?
Bikejoring is a sport where a dog (or sometimes two dogs) runs in front of a bike and pulls while connected through a pulling harness and a bungee line. The handler pedals and steers, and the dog provides forward drive. Teams follow trail etiquette and use directional cues so the dog understands where to go.

Getting started
How to start bikejoring?
Make sure your dog is physically ready
This dog sport is demanding. Many teams wait until a dog is fully grown and cleared by a vet for sustained pulling work.Get the right gear
Use a pulling harness designed for forward motion, a bungee line, and a bike attachment that keeps the line away from the front wheel. A regular walking harness is not the same thing.Teach cues off the bike first
Practice left and right turns, stopping, and passing distractions while walking or jogging. Clear cues make everything safer once you add speed.Start with short, easy runs
Pick wide trails with good sight lines. Keep early sessions short and end while your dog still wants more.Build controlled starts and stops
Most mistakes happen at the beginning and end. Practice calm starts, smooth slowdowns, and safe stops.Work up distance and speed gradually
Increase in small steps and pay attention to heat, hydration, paws, and recovery.
