Camp Barkley / A Day at Camp

A day at camp, hour by hour.

Dogs thrive on rhythm. Here's what a typical Day Camp looks like at Main Camp, from the first sniff at 7:00 to the Camp Postcard at pick-up.

DAILY SCHEDULE

Today at Main Camp

  • Drop-off at the Trading Post

A quick nose-to-tail health check, a scan of the camper's tag and a hello from the front desk. Campers head to their cabin's hall to settle in.

  • Morning Muster

A calm start: sniffing, slow greetings and a few minutes on the mat. Counselors take attendance and check everyone's mood.

  • Field Day

The big play block. Cabins rotate through Field Day Field, the Mess Hall and the agility course, with water breaks every 20 minutes.

  • Splash or Sniff

May to October, it's Lake Woofagong time for swimmers. In cooler months, we run scent games and snuffle mats indoors.

  • Skill Sessions

Dogs signed up for Skill Sessions get 15 minutes one-on-one with a counselor. Everyone else gets puzzle toys and quiet play.

  • Rest Hour

Lights low, music soft, cots out. Every camper rests for 90 minutes. Overtired dogs make bad choices, and Rest Hour keeps the afternoon happy.

  • Afternoon Activities

A gentler play block: bubble machines, sprinklers in summer, sniff walks on the camp loop and enrichment puzzles.

  • Cool-down

Calm play, water and a brush-out. Counselors write the Camp Postcards and award any merit badges earned that day.

  • Pick-up

Your Camp Postcard text arrives with a photo and a note. Wash House baths can be ready for pick-up too.

Why Rest Hour matters

Tired is not the goal

Hours of nonstop play leave dogs overstimulated and cranky, not happy. A daily nap lowers stress, cuts down on scuffles and sends your dog home relaxed instead of frazzled.
